Harvard’s soft robotic exosuit adapts itself to the needs of every wearer They also want to make it more autonomous by incorporating cameras and pressure sensors to transform it from nifty proof-of-concept to fully realized tool for marine biologists.Ī paper describing the work was recently published in the journal Science Robotics. Next up, Teoh said the team hopes to develop a version of the grabber that’s constructed with a more rugged material, such as titanium or stainless steel. Therefore even though the system of linkages look more complex, they consist entirely of revolute joints which are mechanically much simpler.” Minimizing the number of actuators is key because incorporating actuators is a relatively more complex engineering task you have to figure out ways of attaching, powering, sensing, and coordinating the folds. This is exciting because now we can potentially construct 3D shapes from its 2D net using only one actuator. This transforms the net from a five degree of freedom system to a one degree of freedom system. We then build another layer of linkages on top of the net. ![]() “The net of the cube would be a cross made of six squares. “For example, imagine unfolding a cube,” Teoh continued. The team was able to develop a way to fold 3D shapes from a 2D net using only a single actuator. From a technical perspective, the aspect of the project that’s most interesting is the origami-like folding shape of the Poké Ball part of the robot. ![]()

Hello everyone, Craig Keudell, CEO of ON1 here. ![]() ![]() ![]() The continuation of John Dutton ( Kevin Costner)’s story arc and growth, presented in Season One, has been wiped out. I have never seen a writer undermine his own narrative. I have never seen this before on a television show in my life (besides the last two seasons of Game of Thrones). Instead of “sabotaging”, I should say “sabotaged” because Blood the Boy completes Sheridan’s deleterious work. What is writer/creator Taylor Sheridan thinking? He’s sabotaging his sublime narrative, dynamiting it, turning almost every aspect of it into something ordinary. The Willful Longevity Bullet Through the Foot ![]() If this is how Conrad and Sheridan choose to end the Jamie Dutton / John Dutton / Sarah Nguyen news story story-line, I will lose what remaining respect I have for the writers of this TV series. They utilize an idiotic sequence of events, or at least the most readily available, and hope no one is paying attention (a strange notion since a television show requires one to watch and digest what they are seeing on-screen). This is how Yellowstone‘s writers have chosen to get rid of pesky story-lines they no longer want from Season One. None of that will happen, not after the cancer / ulcer fiasco at the beginning of this season of Yellowstone. How will that fresh head bump/bruise have gotten there if she was wearing a helmet when she died?Ī real-world medical examiner would discover all this during Nguyen’s autopsy, they would then notify police detectives, and the detectives would start a homicide investigation. She will have a head contusion under her helmet. Jamie Dutton ( Wes Bentley) killing Nguyen is predictable but how it is handled afterward is more than anything else humorous (odd since this is a serious television drama comprised of hard men and women).ġ.) How does it look like a boating accident when Sarah Nguyen has strangulation marks around her neck?Ģ.) How does drowning in the water cause finger bruising around a person’s throat?ģ.) Jamie Dutton hit Nguyen’s head against her car before he strangled her to death. The Unbelievable Boating Accident Solution If in the following episodes of Yellowstone, writers Brett Conrad and Taylor Sheridan indicate that Sarah Nguyen’s news story about John Dutton died with her, not only will it be a convenient and terribly-written plot point cope-out (like the magical colon cancer that turned into an ulcer between seasons), it will be a complete real-world fantasy, one that could never take one furtive, anguishing breath in the modern newspaper industry. At this point, a fully written, printable draft of the story has been completed ( à la Spotlight and Almost Famous). The news story is at the quote stage (Nguyen wants a quote from John Dutton about the contents of the news story). In short, killing Sarah Nguyen does not stop the news story she is working on about John Dutton from being published. ![]() Sarah Nguyen ( Michaela Conlin) is such a journalist.Ī journalist like Nguyen will have: a.) told the editor she is writing for all about the John Dutton news story (Nguyen said last season “My editor wants the story” so her editor knows about the story), b.) played the recording of the Jamie Dutton interview for the editor (and uploaded it to the newspaper’s server), c.) sent a draft of the completed story to her editor, d.) notified the lawyers at her paper of Jamie’s reticence and possible lawsuit from John Dutton (she indicated the former in Touching Your Enemy), and being notified, the lawyers would have requested Nguyen’s interview notes, a transcript of the recorded interview, and listened to the recording of the interview. In the real world with layers of redundancies like The Cloud and backups, simply killing the journalist behind an unpublished news article will not stop that news story from being published. Though the mystique and patina of the cowboy lifestyle is deepened in Blood the Boy with rodeo horse racing, the phenomenon of “buckle bunnies”, and bronc riding, Season Two of Yellowstone has successfully downgraded this TV series from having an exceptional narrative and well-realized characters into an ordinary television drama set at a large ranch in Montana. ![]() ![]() ![]() “I wrote that song in a night and sent it off to numerous friends to add tracks while they were also struggling with the news. Tammy invited several of McCaughey’s friends and band mates to make guest appearances on the track, including Kurt Bloch (Young Fresh Fellows, Fastbacks), Ken Stringfellow (Posies), Corin Tucker (Sleater Kinney), Andy Shernoff (Dictators), Keith Streng (Fleshtones), and Michael Giblin and Josh Kantor (Split Squad). John Hill, in his alternate role as a freelance tour coordinator, was actually in San Francisco with McCaughey when he suffered the stroke, and a distressed Tammy Ealom wrote the song while following the details back home. “Tiny Lil’ Robots” and “Sweet Medicine,” meanwhile, were inspired by Tammy’s relationship with her daughter, while “Mon Cheri” was sparked by the emotions that accompanied the sudden death of Dressy Bessy’s original bass player Rob Greene in January 2018.Įlsewhere on the new collection, the bittersweet “The Real McCoy” pays heartfelt tribute to longtime friend and label mate (Minus Five/Young Fresh Fellows leader) Scott McCaughey, who had suffered a stroke at the time the song was written. Throughout Fast Faster Disaster, such engaging new tunes as “It’s Not That Hard,” “Fearless,” “Cheerup Teardrop” and “Stay True” reflect on universal emotional foibles with the same pointed insight that Ealom has brought to her lyrics since the band’s early days as iconoclastic indie pop darlings. The Denver combo’s second Yep Roc release, and their second since the seven-year recording hiatus that preceded 2016’s KINGSIZED, Fast Faster Disaster ‘s new songs affirm Tammy Ealom’s career-long commitment to barbed lyrical insight and effortlessly catchy melodies. beginnings, Tammy Ealom’s distinctive songcraft remains as sharp as ever. With this album, most songs were written for someone or inspired by something I love.”įast Faster Disaster makes it clear that, two decades from the band’s seminal D.I.Y. Writing a song about it made me feel like I was getting the last word, case closed in my mind. “In the past, the bulk of my songwriting was inspired by something or someone who’d pissed me off. “This is the most selfless record I’ve ever written,” asserts frontwoman Tammy Ealom. She’s the genuine article and one of the strongest, most talented women I know.” Tammy’s songwriting and performance are as vital as ever. “This album comes out 20 years after our first one,” guitarist John Hill says of Dressy Bessy’s second Yep Roc Records release, Fast Faster Disaster. ![]() ![]() The timelines work differently in Premiere and Final Cut. ![]() This proved to me that my computer was plenty fast enough to play back my relatively small 4K 100 Mbps footage at 2x speed, but Adobe's software is the weak link. When I would add effects to a clip, the footage would be noticeably lower-resolution for a few seconds (while it rendered in the background), but it would always play and scrub smoothly before and after the footage became sharp. Not only did my footage never stutter, but it also scrubbed flawlessly without any additional rendering or proxy building. This is annoying, but I've become used to it.Įditing in Final Cut Pro was shockingly fast. Sometimes, this only takes a few minutes, while other times, it can take over an hour if the project is large enough. To fix this, I've gotten in the habit of making proxies before I start editing any project. The footage may play smoothly for a second in 2x speed, but then, it will freeze up, and when I hit the spacebar to stop playing, the footage will stop and the software will freeze while the audio continues for sometimes up to 10 seconds before the sound stops and the software becomes usable again. This does also happen on some Windows machines I've used, but it's never been this bad. I edit almost exclusively in 2x speed in Premiere, and I'm sad to say that it is completely unusable on my new M1 MacBook Pro. That being said, the project I was working on was abnormally simple. I feel like no matter how gigantic my computer monitors are, they are never big enough for Adobe Premiere, and I've never understood how people can edit a video on a laptop, but for the first time, I found editing in Final Cut Pro very comfortable on my 14-inch laptop screen. I wasn't jumping around from one corner of the screen to the other like I find myself doing in Premiere. I also found that navigating around Final Cut Pro felt a little easier. ![]() There are so many extra windows and tools in Premiere that I will probably never use for my simple projects, and this complexity can be a turn-off to new users. There's no doubt that Premiere is far more complicated than Final Cut. After watching a couple of YouTube tutorials, I jumped right into Final Cut Pro without too much confusion. ![]() ![]() ![]() But neither publication sent a follow-up noting the error, and for any user who did not seek out extra news, the initial push may be the only claim they heard on the matter.Contact: Scott Gastel/Alana Morales (212) 839-4850 Fighting Gridlock: DOT and NYPD Announce 2019 “Gridlock Alert” Days, As Well As Improved Cycling Access During Next Week’s United Nations General Assemblyįor the second year, Gridlock Alert Days include the week of the U.N. Both the Express and Daily Mail pushed out the claim that, in the Mail’s phrasing: “Labour activist ‘PUNCHES Matt Hancock’s adviser at Leeds hospital’”. One common concern about push notifications is the lack of any norms around mistakes. Conversely, the one-sided election pact announced a few days later by the Brexit party saw a run of positive notifications for the Conservative party, with the Express specifically noting that Corbyn was “facing wipeout”. On 6 and 7 November there was a run of bad notifications for Labour, around Tom Watson’s resignation, Ian Austin’s intervention, and no less than five hits from the Telegraph in one 24-hour period. ![]() ![]() The paper’s practice of pushing most opinion columns contributed substantially to the skew, but even with those excluded, notifications such as “‘Reckless’ Labour to send public debt soaring with £600bn borrowing spree” and “Corbyn will betray Brexit, Johnson says as he takes election fight to Labour heartlands” left readers in no doubt as to who the publication supported.Įven without the Telegraph included in the count, however, the Tories received a net zero positive pushes from all the other publications the Guardian tracked, while Labour received -17.Ī few specific events stand out in the analysis. The paper sent out 40 push alerts that were negative for Labour, without a single positive story, and a net of 18 that were positive for the Conservatives. Skewing everything, however, is the Telegraph. The Mail was roughly as skewed in the other direction, with four negative stories about Labour and a net of zero about the Conservatives, and the Express was stronger, with eight stories attacking Labour, and a net of four supporting the Conservatives. The Mirror expressed clear support for Labour through its choice of which stories to send notifications for, and how to phrase them: a net three positive for Labour and net three negative for the Conservatives, with neither party receiving a single story to counterweight the general impression. Similarly with the Guardian (evens for Labour and net two negative for the Conservatives) and Sky News (net five negative for Labour and net three negative for the Conservatives). BBC News largely avoided notifications with clear winners, sending a net of one negative story about Labour and an even breakdown of stories about the Conservatives. For the Labour party, however, there were a net 57 negative.īut the distributions were not the same for every publication. There were a net 18 positive push notifications for the Conservative party in the period since 6 November, and a net two negative for the Liberal Democrats. ![]() ![]() ![]() PDFsamįreemium | Official Website | Windows | Mac | Linux Price: PDF Split & Merge Pro – $19.95 (One-Time Fee for Unlimited files) ( Latest Offer) 5.
